Meet the Team: Small Joys

Here at 253 Therapy and Consult, we understand the importance of having what we call “pockets of joy”. Small joys may seem simple, but they play a powerful role in helping us stay grounded. These moments help regulate our nervous systems, restore our energy, and remind us of what makes life meaningful. By intentionally noticing and sharing these everyday moments, we cultivate resilience, deepen our sense of connection, and create space for healing, not just in the therapy room, but in our own lives as well.

In this Meet the Team blog, I wanted to share with you some of our team’s favorite pockets of joy:

Erika: “Some joys in my life right now are the quiet moments that help me slow down and just be present wherever I am. I love watching my dog play in the grass getting to feel the sun instead of shivering in the rain. With spring here, I’ve been noticing insects moving through the grass again and more birds building nests in the bushes near our birdfeeder, which reminds me that things are always growing and changing. I really value staying connected with friends and family with quick phone calls or meeting up for a meal, coffee, or even just a quick snack in someone else’s office. Those little moments of connection mean a lot to me and food is such a great reason to meet up. I also try to take a few minutes to step outside, stretch, and just take in the sights and sounds around me. It helps me slow down and reset. Taking that time to connect with people, nature, and my body really helps when I start to feel overwhelmed or anxious.”

Savanna: “A few small joys in my daily life are cuddling my cats between sessions, creating art, listening to music, going for walks, and catching the sunset! ”

Kara: "A few small joys in my life are the people in my life, living near the bay (I love the water), my cats, and movies!"

Megan: “I appreciate getting to savor cuddles with my pets, spending time with family and friends, and experiencing the beautiful nature around me!”

Francisco: Pequeñas alegrías / Small joys

El primer rayo de sol entrando por la ventana,

the first ray of sunlight slipping through the window,

el cafecito caliente entre las manos,

a warm cup of coffee resting in my hands,

el sonido de la calle despertando despacio,

the street slowly coming alive with sound, una canción que me encuentra sin buscarla,

a song that finds me when I wasn’t looking,

a risa compartida, aunque sea breve,

a shared laugh, even if it’s brief,

y ese momento tranquilo…

and that quiet momentcuando todo se siente suficiente.

when everything feels like enough.

Kisha: “My Shichon Camara, who is the most loving velcro puppy, playing video games with my friends, my grandbabies and building Legos”

Markelle: “Drinking my morning coffee out of a mug that fits my mood that day.

The sound of a steady rain on my roof.

Hearing from my long-distance best friends.”

Natalie: "Fresh clean sheets, the smell of lavender, and the sound of my daughters' laughter."

Jamie: “A few small joys are my dog, coffee, art, and nature.”
